Master Sergeant Ellis S. Warren lived in Valley Station and graduated from Valley High School. He enlisted in the Kentucky National Guard in in 1977 on delayed enlistment and attended Basic Training
at FT. Jackson. SC from 8 FEB 1978 through April 1978. He was designated as Trainee of the Cycle in Boot Camp and received the Advanced Rating of Private First Class E-3 and then attended the then 71L MOS for Admin Specialist also at FT Jackson through JUN 1978.
He returned to Kentucky as an Honor Graduate and was assigned to the 223rd MP CO, 198th MP BN then at Buechel. He attended an Army Reserve MP CBT Course held at Standiford Field and performed OJT to receive the MOS of 95B.
During his tenure in the Kentucky National Guard he performed as Radio Dispatcher, Provost Marshall's Office desk clerk maintaining the blotter, tactical check points and patrols and garrison traffic and patrol duties.
He was called to state active duty for 17 days to provide external security for the world 3-day Equestrian Event held at the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington. During this call-up he was assigned to the main intersection to receive the Governor's Entourage and later Prince Charles controlling non-authorized vehicles from entering the inner perimeter. Upon entering the Governor was noted as "commending the young Kentucky Guardsmen who snapped to attention, held all traffic by blowing his whistle and struck a smart salute until he passed". He was awarded the KY State Active Duty (KYSAD) ribbon for this service.
In 1979, he attended his first annual training at Camp Shelby, MS where they provided Garrison Patrols and Security. This was a 600 Mile convoy in a M151A2 Jeep.
He attended various field training exercises at Ft. Knox for tactical reinforcement as well as the Kentucky State Fair Booth showing off the custom Jeep that was red, white and blue with vinyl seats button-tucked with gold Class A uniform buttons and chrome wheels.
Warren then moved to Arizona with his family and was transferred to the National Guard their in an Artillery unit. Warren transferred to Active Duty in 1980 and attended Military Intelligence School at Pensacola, FL where he was also an Honor Graduate. He continued his Active Duty service until 1997 retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He had three overseas tours including duty in Panama and the 82nd ABN and Berlin Brigade.
His awards and decorations include: Three Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Four Army Achievement Medals, Army of Occupation Medal, KYSAD Ribbon, the Nijmegen Medal and various other Ribbons and unit commendations; Parachutist Badge, Canadian Wings and Jungle Expert Badge.
After the military he joined the federal civil service rising to a GS-13 before he retired. He is now an employee of Lockheed Martin as a Department of Defense DOD Contractor in Colorado.
