For distinguishing himself for heroism involving voluntary risk of life near Leitchfield, Kentucky on 4 March 1981. Staff Sergeant Lambert, without regard for his own personal well being, went to the aid of a fellow guardsman who was trapped in a overturned military vehicle. In the presence of spilled fuel, which could have been ignited by a spark from the overturned vehicle, he proceeded to kick out a window, shut off the ignition, and held the driver's head out of the rising to keep him from drowning. Staff Sergeant Lambert's courageous actions and humanitarian regard for his fellow guardsman has reflected great credit upon himself and the Kentucky Army National Guard.

For distinguishing himself for heroism involving risk of life at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on 4 June 1981, Sergeant Joseph M. Miles, while on duty with the Kentucky National Guard, saved the life of a fellow soldier whose clothes were on fire due to a generator fire. Sergeant Miles got the burning man (SP4 Keene) to the ground, removed his shirt and smothered the flames. Sergeant Miles suffered severe burns to his body while extinguishing the flames. His courageous actions and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, has reflected great credit upon himself and the Kentucky National Guard.

For heroism involving voluntary risk of life near Lexington, Kentucky on 4 May 1982. On that date, SGT Whitaker rushed to the aid of victims that were trapped in a burning vehicle. Using an axe to break the windows of the vehicle, SGT Whitaker assisted in the removal of two young children from the burning wreckage. The children's mother was pinned in the vehicle and could not be removed. With complete disregard for his own safety and despite the hazards of exploding fuel, SGT Whitaker unhesitatingly remained with the vehicle and persevered in his humanitarian rescue efforts. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, SGT Whitaker reflects great credit upon himself, the United States Army and the Kentucky Army National Guard.
