Command Sergeant Major Thomas E. Chumley

Command Sergeant Major Chumley enlisted in the United States Navy in 1972. He attended basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon completion of basic training and Gunners Mate School, Command Sergeant Major Chumley was deployed on three separated occasions in support of military operations outside the continental United States. Upon completion of his active duty tour, Command Sergeant Major Chumley transferred to the Naval Reserves where he served as the Leading Gunners Mate. In 1985, Command Sergeant Major Chumley enlisted into the Kentucky Army National Guard and was assigned as a Gunner with Bravo Battery 2nd 138th Field Artillery, Elizabethtown, Kentucky. During his tenure he was assigned as a M109A2 Howitzer Section Chief, Gunnery Sergeant, Chief of Firing Battery and Platoon Sergeant.
 
After his successful tour of duty with Bravo Battery 2nd Battalion 138 Field Artillery, Command Sergeant Major Chumley transferred to Alpha Battery 2nd Battalion 138th Field Artillery as the Platoon Sergeant. During this tour he was promoted to Master Sergeant and was subsequently assigned to 138th Field Artillery Brigade where he served as Brigade Intelligence Sergeant. In June 2002, Command Sergeant Major Chumley received orders to Charlie Battery 2nd Battalion 138th Field Artillery and was selected and assigned as the battery First Sergeant. During this tour, Charlie Battery 2nd Battalion 138th Field Artillery was deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle at Fort Campbell, Kentucky providing base security and Quick Reaction Force. In June 2005 Command Sergeant Major Chumley was selected as Command Sergeant Major of 2nd Battalion 138th Field Artillery. June 2006 Command Sergeant Major Chumley attended the United States Army Sergeant Majors Academy. During his tenure the Battalion was mobilized and deployed in support of Operation Iraq Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. In September 2011 Command Sergeant Major Chumley was selected as the 138th Fires Brigade Command Sergeant Major.  Recently, Command Sergeant Major Chumley was selected and deployed as the Joint Force Land Component Command Senior Enlisted Leader in the Horn of Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
 
Command Sergeant Major Chumley military education includes: United States Army Sergeant Majors Academy, First Sergeant Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course (13B-ANCOC) AC,  Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course (13B-BNCOC) AC,  Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Associates Degree Vincennes University and Associates Degree Electronic Technology
 
Command Sergeant Major Chumley’s awards and decorations include: the, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Civilian Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal,  Navy Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Reserve Component Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy Sea Service Ribbon, Navy Marine Overseas Service Ribbon, Kentucky Merit Ribbon, Kentucky Commendation Ribbon, Kentucky Service Ribbon, Kentucky State Active Duty Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, Navy “E” Award, Navy Enlisted Surface Warfare Badge.
